MONTHLY MEETING: The Thames Path Part 6
In Memoriam : Liz Dancer
It was with great sadness that I learnt of the news that Liz Dancer had died peacefully at home before Christmas after her short but terminal illness.
She was a great influence on Cirencester u3a during her numerous years as a member, Group Leader and particularly as Chairperson over 4 years until 2018. Liz very skilfully twisted my arm to succeed her as Chair, when she kindly led me through the early weeks, never interfering but always available for advice. She was a hard act to follow.
I first met Liz through playing u3a Bridge where she was an excellent and competitive player at both the Thursday and Friday Bridge Groups, always being in the top part of the league tables with husband Keith.
Liz’s competitive spirit also showed when quizzing, whether it was in external pub quizzes or her own regular u3a quizzes where she was question writer, quizmaster, and final strict arbiter of the correct answer. These were always very well attended u3a social gatherings…great fun!
Elsewhere in Cirencester u3a, Liz will be remembered as the founder member and ongoing Group Leader of one of the u3a book clubs (Literature 3) and a founder member of the very successful Walking Netball Group. She was also a long-term and conscientious member of the initial Latin Group, keeping up with her homework until near the end.
Thank you, Liz, and rest in peace.

Party in the Park
A huge thank you to everyone who helped with, and attended, the u3a Party in the Park on 12th September.
Despite the showery weather, the event was well attended, with over 100 people counted at one point during the afternoon! Our team of enthusiastic helpers provided a fantastic spread of sandwiches, snacks and cakes, all washed down with Prosecco or soft drinks.
But the highlight of the afternoon was surely the entertainment by our own Ukulele Group, who provided afternoon cheer and a celebratory environment, with songs that we could all remember the words to!
It was definitely an afternoon to remember!
